Environmental problems generated by leachates in Bogota

Abstract

Leachates in sanitary landfills are produced by factors such as climatic conditions, landfill design and operation, solid waste composition, mismanagement of this type of waste in the community, and lack of a better structure for the Plan de Gestión Integral de Residuos Sólidos of Bogota. This study aims to inform about the environmental issues caused by the leachates generated in the Doña Juana landfill, considering its causes and impact on the environment and the community. Using a causal loop diagram, the variables with the greater impact and their causal relationship were identified to have better insights, conceptualization and understanding of the problem. The visit to the area of influence allowed to analyze the situation, determine the relation with the neighboring community and identify the environmental and social consequences.
