This article describes the socioeconomic situation of commercial establishments located in a square kilometer around Universidad Central, Sede Centro. A survey was conducted to 318 stores of the 2135 that are in the area, which allowed to obtain a confidence interval of 95 % with an error of 5 % in the results. The aspects evaluated were approach to strengths, difficulties, and opportunities; competitiveness; perceptions; innovation, quality, and technology; relations with clients; social responsibility, pollution and environment, and financial situation. This analysis helped to determine the social dynamics and challenges that shopkeepers have to face in the area. This information will allow public entities to make decisions to improve coexistence, encourage healthy competition, and favor economic growth in the zone.
