This article describes some of the variables that allow to explain the results of the Human Development Index (HDI) measurement in Latin America from 2012 to 2018. For the analysis, a panel-corrected standard errors model was used, in which a determination coefficient of 93.56?% was obtained. Based on this, it was possible to notice that the size of population, the number of articles in scientific and technical publications, the urban population as a percentage of the total, and the unemployment rate affect the results of the HDI measurement in Latin American countries for the analyzed period.
